INVESTIGATING THE ROLE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION IN PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY

ABSTRACT: This study Investigated the Role of Early Childhood Education in Promoting Gender Equality. The objectives of this study were to: (1) evaluate the effectiveness of early childhood education (ECE) programs in promoting gender equality, (2) assess the impact of gender-neutral teaching practices on children's attitudes towards gender roles, and (3) determine the long-term benefits of gender equality education on social development. A survey design was employed to gather comprehensive data from educators, parents, and children about their experiences with gender equality education in ECE settings. A sample size of 160 participants, including preschool teachers, parents, and children aged 4-6, was selected using purposive sampling. The case study was conducted in early childhood education centers in Lagos State, Nigeria, given its diverse population and progressive education policies. Findings revealed that ECE programs significantly improved children's attitudes towards gender roles and promoted gender equality. It was recommended that early childhood education centers integrate gender equality education into their curricula and provide training for educators to effectively teach these concepts.
